How to play blackjack game?

Blackjack is a comparative card game played against the dealer. The objective is to achieve a hand value higher than the dealer’s hand without exceeding 21 (busting).

Card Values

• Numbered cards (2–10) count as their face value.
• Face cards (Jack, Queen, King) count as 10.
• An Ace counts as 1 or 11, whichever is more favorable without busting.

Deal & Turn Order

1. Each player places a bet.
2. The dealer deals two cards to each player and two to themselves. Typically, the dealer has one card face up (the “upcard”) and one face down (the “hole card”).
3. Each player acts in turn, starting from the player left of the dealer.

Player Options

• Hit: Take another card. You may continue to hit until you stand or bust (total over 21).
• Stand: Take no more cards. Play passes to the next player.
• Double Down: Double your original bet in exchange for exactly one additional card.
• Split: If your first two cards are of equal value, split them into two separate independent hands. You place a second bet of equal size. You can usually split up to three times (four hands total), but Aces often receive only one card per hand after splitting.
• Surrender (optional, table-dependent): Forfeit half your bet to end the hand immediately.

Dealer Play After all players have completed their hands, the dealer reveals their face-down card and must draw cards according to fixed table rules:

• Stand on all 17s (S17): Dealer must draw on 16 or less and stand on 17 or more.
• Hit soft 17 (H17): Dealer must draw on any hand totaling 17 that contains an Ace counted as 11 (e.g., Ace + 6), but stand on hard 17 and above. If the dealer busts, all remaining players who did not bust win even money (1:1).

Winning & Payouts

• A hand total higher than the dealer’s total without exceeding 21 wins 1:1 (even money).
• A Blackjack (an Ace plus a 10-value card on the first two cards) beats all other hands, including a dealer’s 21 made up of three or more cards, and pays 3:2 (or 6:5 at some tables). The dealer checks for blackjack with a 10-value or Ace upcard. If the dealer has blackjack, all non-blackjack hands lose, and players with blackjack are offered an even money payoff instead of the standard 3:2.
• If your total exceeds 21, you lose your bet immediately, regardless of the dealer’s eventual outcome.
• A tie in point totals with the dealer is a push, and your bet is returned.

Important Rule The game is played strictly against the dealer’s hand; there is no cooperative play among players. Strategic decisions (such as when to hit or stand) depend on your hand total and the dealer’s upcard, often guided by a mathematical “basic strategy” chart to minimize the house edge.
